Cleaning Your Chandelier
by: Dave The Chandelier Man

Cleaning of chandelier can be a daunting task. That’s why if have a villa or a building with a lot of chandeliers, a D.I.Y is definitely not a recommended thing to do. Get professional help.

Typically, a chandelier has to be clean once every 2 years or less. The gleaming and glistening outcome can be most satisfying indeed. Because of the prominence the chandelier, a beautifully maintained chandelier enhances your room.

Cleaning a chandelier involves disassembly. That’s why it is intimating.
So please take note of what goes where first before doing so. Drawing a diagram before hand does helps. I suggest you clean sections by sections so you always refer to the un-dismantled one for fixing back.

Always make sure the current is off first and cooled down before proceeding on your cleaning project. Have a cushion to catch dropping prism to prevent breakage. Don’t turn the chandelier while cleaning but move around it yourself.

Mild dish detergent and hot water is what the professionals really use and that’s all you need. Harsh chemicals should be avoided. The pinning can become blacken through chemical reaction.

Cleaning the body of the all-crystal chandelier by dusting the fixture with a dry cloth, then using your favorite glass cleaner sprayed on to a cloth (never spray into the fixture), wipe and polish all pieces. A micro fiber cloth is recommended. A clean bulb makes a difference.

With the solid brass fixtures, you should remove the crystal trimmings and clean in the same manner. But the bodies of the brass chandeliers need only dusting. Don’t apply cleaner or brass polish to this brass.

Vinegar or ammonia will give the crystal a good shine; however, you should be careful to keep these solutions away from the metal pinning.

Many spray-on chandelier cleaners on the market work well. But the "old fashioned" method of taking the chandelier apart is the most thorough and longest lasting method and by far, the best.

Contacting a chandelier cleaner may be ultimately the best options in today's busy world.
